Obituary for Ronald Duane Gramenz

Ronald D. Gramenz (Ron) died at his home at Lake Minnetonka Shores in Spring Park, MN on February 3, 2019. He passed away peacefully at the age of 92, after a gradual but steady decline in physical and mental ability over the last 2 ½ years.
Ron was born on April 19, 1926 at home in Minneapolis, MN to Henry and Thea (Blomlie) Gramenz. Second youngest, he was raised with 4 siblings in the Chicago area, and married Blue Island, IL native, Nancy Jean Kough, on December 18, 1948. Ron spent his career at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM), working in several locations in the State until his retirement in 1987. First up was Sault St. Marie, where daughter Linda (11-3-49) and son Rob (2-3-52) were born. Then on to Alpena, where daughter Janine (10-24-54) joined the family. He soon was on the move again, this time to Muskegon, where daughter Cindy came along (12-19-57).
Never one to let moss gather, subsequent moves found he and wife Nancy continuing to enjoy Michigan together, spending 11 years in Grand Rapids and 1 year in the Detroit office before heading back to the Upper Peninsula to take a position as district manager in Marquette. After retirement from BCBSM, Ron and Nancy enjoyed traveling around the Country in their RV, visiting family and enjoying one another’s company, playing bridge whenever the opportunity arose. They moved to Mound, Minnesota in 1991. Nancy died suddenly and very unexpectedly of a stroke, at age 77 in 2004. Ron moved in 2006 to Lake Minnetonka Shores, where he fell in love with his new community, enjoyed involvement in a full range of activities, totally appreciated the campus grounds and always reveled in the beautiful view, no matter the time of year. A man of service, Ron contributed many hours volunteering, as well as coordinating the Tuesday bridge group. His outgoing and enthusiastic personality left an impression wherever he went. He was an avid walker on the wonderful Minnesota trails and a man of strong Christian faith, who will be missed so much by so many!
In addition to Nancy, Ron was preceded in death by grandson, Colin James Jansma, in 2009.
Ron is survived by his four children: Linda Vosylius (Nick) of Montrose, MN, Rob Gramenz (Carol Ramm-Gramenz) of New Orleans, LA, Janine Jansma of Caledonia, MI and Cindy Garwood (Pete) of Kewadin, MI. Sharing in an abundance of mutual love and affection, Gramps engaged so lovingly with his 12 grandchildren: Sarah (Brett), Sybil (Keith), Jonathan (Samantha), Tyler (Heather), Travis (Jodi), Hans (Tammi), Jesse, Tessa, Graham (Mara), Anthony (Kristine), and Anna. He has 16 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
Ron’s family extends their deep gratitude to all the Lake Minnetonka Shores and Hospice staff for their loving care and service.
A celebration of Ron’s life will be held on Saturday, February 23 in the Chapel at Lake Minnetonka Shores, Spring Park, with visitation starting at 1:00 pm followed by a service at 2 pm.
Memorial donations in memory of Ron may be made to Lake Minnetonka Shores in Spring Park, MN or to Park Nicollet Hospice.
