Mary Bloomingdale Chinnock, 35, of Chanhassen, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on March 15, 2019, at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.
Mary was born in Mason City, Iowa, on December 30, 1983, to Jim and Jane Bloomingdale. Mary grew up in Northwood, Iowa, attending the Northwood-Kensett Community Schools. She spent summers at Gull Lake with her family and many, many, cousins and friends. She was confirmed at the First Lutheran Church in Northwood. In high school Mary loved dance and was active in volleyball, golf, and basketball. She graduated as valedictorian in 2002.
Mary continued her education at the University of Iowa earning a BA in Accounting and Management Information Systems. She spent a summer studying in Copenhagen. She was an active member of the Alpha Phi Sorority. She loved going to football games a Kinnick Stadium and always had fun with her “328” roommates. She participated in the University of Iowa Dance Marathon to raise money for the University of Iowa Children’s Hospital.
Following graduation, she began her career with Ernst & Young Accounting, where she advanced to Senior Manager. She worked in Kansas City and in Denver before she settled in Minneapolis. She earned an MBA from Carlson School of Business at the University of Minnesota, travelling to Oman and Abu Dhabi as part of her Masters studies.
Mary married Adam Chinnock on September 10, 2016, in Nisswa, Minnesota near Gull Lake, where they had first met, and, as Mary said many times, it was the “Best Day Ever!”
Mary loved spending time with family and friends, particularly at Gull Lake. In the fall, Mary loved Hawkeye games on Saturdays and Vikings games on Sundays, many times attending the games with her husband, parents, and friends. Always active, Mary enjoyed skiing, playing golf, yoga, camping and hiking (thanks to her husband). She also enjoyed biking and participated in RAGBRAI in 2010. She loved traveling, reading, and watching Marvel movies. She participated in several cancer fundraisers, including Relay for Life, Susan G. Komen Walk, and Flippin’ Flamingo at the Northwood Country Club.
Throughout her life, Mary was always a happy, fun person with a contagious, positive outlook on life. Mary enriched the lives of all who knew her, and she will be deeply missed.
Mary was preceded in death by her grandparents, Ron and Dee Bloomingdale and Bud and Josephine Johnson, Uncle Lynn and Aunt Sarah (Johnson) Ehler, Uncle Dick Johnson, and cousin Maggie Ehler.
Mary is survived by her husband, her parents, and her brother Michael and his fiancé Courtney Eidness. She is also survived by loving aunts and uncles, many cousins, and an abundance of friends, many of whom consider her their best friend.
