Obituary for Don Grimstad

Grimstad, Don of Minnetonka passed away peacefully on June 9, 2019 surrounded by his loving family. He was born to parents Hans & Guro, and joined brothers Harold & Melvin, on September 18, 1932 in Minneapolis. Don graduated from Roosevelt High School and received a degree in Education from the University of Minnesota. He earned his Masters and Doctorate degrees through Mankato State. He taught in the Minnetonka School District, and then became a Supervisor for student teachers through St Cloud University until he retired. He married Mary Ann, the love of his life, on February 1, 1958. They were blessed with two daughters, Kristin and Kimberly, whom he cherished. Family was Don's first love followed by friends, traveling, fishing, music, animals and sports. Don was a lifelong season ticket holder of the MN Vikings. Don is survived by his wife Mary Ann of 61 years; daughters Kristin (Erik) Ueland and Kimberly (Steven) Schottler; and grandchildren Nicholas, McKenna and Isabella Ueland, and Mary, Molly, Mitchell and Matthew Schottler. Don was a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was devoted to his family, and left a lasting impact on everyone's life he touched. Our husband, dad and papa will be missed so very much. You are our sunshine. Happy Father's Day to the best dad ever! The family plans to set up an education scholarship fund in Don's name. Memorial donations may be sent to 8043 Kimberly L. N Maple Grove, Mn 55311. This will help keep Don's legacy alive while working to improve the lives of students. Please join us in celebrating Don's life on Friday June 21, 2019 at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church (301 County Rd 19, Excelsior, MN 55331) with visitation at 10am followed by 11am Memorial Service.
